Scholarship Requirements

You may have received a scholarship based on your cultural background, from your company, from your high school, or from a community organization. Your scholarship might be a reward for academic or physical accomplishments, essay contests, or community service. No matter how you got that scholarship, you certainly want to keep it, so use the following tips to make sure you do.

Mind the Details
Some scholarships are one-time-only awards, but some are renewable each year. If you collected letters of recommendation, transcripts, and other information to apply for the scholarship, hold onto that information. You might need it again the following semester or academic year. Be sure you know the terms and conditions of your scholarship and stay in touch with the donor.

Keep It Up
Merit-based scholarships--awards based on performance in any number of fields--might attach some requirements to your award. This might mean community service hours, a minimum GPA, or taking certain classes within your major.

Know Your Options
You can apply for--and receive--many different scholarships at one time. If you decide to apply for multiple scholarships, make sure to stay organized. There can be variations in required information depending on the individual scholarship, so you'll want to keep deadlines, requirements, forms, and other paperwork in one place. A calendar can help, or using a software program with a calendar and reminders also can make life easier

You should be proud of your scholarships and can even include them on your resume.
